Biography of Actor Irrfan Khan Life Story, Career, Awards

This is the story of a talented actor. His name is Irrfan Ali Khan. The film industry knows him as Irfan Khan or simply Irfan. Irrfan Khan was born on 7th January 1967.

Childhood of Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He belongs to a Pathan family. His mother's name is Begum Khan. She belongs to Hakim family in Tonk, Rajasthan. His father was late Jagirdar Khan.He was from Khajuriya village, which is near Tonk. His father ran a tire business.

Irrfan Khan was only 16 years old when he was deeply impressed with Nasiruddin Shah's acting. In 'Junoon' movie he saw talented actor Rajesh Vivek's acting and he was amazed. There was a local theatre artist in Jaipur named Khurram. He told Irfan that he will have to join the National School of Drama... if he wants to do this kind of acting.

What's amazing is that many great actors Couldn't pass National School of Drama's exam. Even in third attempt, leave alone first. Like Manoj Bajpai. But Irfan Khan passed National School of Drama's exam in first attempt itself. And he won scholarship.

Irfan Khan Career Journey

Although prior to this he was studying MA. It was the year of 1984. Everybody liked Irrfan Khan as an actor. But he was not enjoying acting especially on television. Although he played a small role in Mira Nair's movie 'Salaam Bombay'. That film was a great success. Irfan Khan was seen in Chandrakanta serial. But Irfan Khan was still unsatisfied as an actor.

At that time nobody knew that this actor will become a great star not only in Indian movies but also international movies. He worked in 'Kahkashan' serial produced by Ali Sardar Jafri. He played the role of a poet. That poet was Makhdoom Mohiuddin.

In his childhood Irfan Khan's friends used to call him Mithun Chakraborty. That gave him confidence that he is not that bad looking to act in movies. Irfan Khan's friend Tigmanshu Dhulia brought a ray of hope for him. He made 'Haasil' movie. It changed Irrfan Khan's life. He became a star overnight. He got rid of the pressure of working in television.

The boredom of acting ended. And Irfan Khan became a superstar. He was seen in 'Maqbool','Life in A Metro' and also Jurassic Park series 'Jurassic World'. Irrfan Khan made a name for himself in all kinds of genre like 'Inferno', 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'The Namesake'.

Irrfan Khan gets awards (Achievement Details)

  • Irrfan Khan has been awarded the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. This award was given to him in the year 2011, this award given to him for his work done in Bollywood.

  • This actor was given his first Filmfare title for a negative character and he received this title in 2003 for the movie 'Achta'.

  • In the year 2007, Khan was awarded the Filmfare Award for the film 'Life in Metro'. He received this award for Best Supporting Actor and was also given the IIFA Award in 2008 for the same film.

  • In 2012, Irrfan won his first National Film Award for Best Actor and was given this award for his film 'Paan Singh Tomar'. Irfan has also received the Filmfare Critics Award for this film.

  • In 2013, Irrfan Khan was given awards for his movie lunch box at Dubai International Film Festival, Asia Pacific Film Festival and Asian Film Festival.

  • Irfan was awarded the Best Ensemble Award for Slumdog Millionaire by the Central Ohio Film Critics Association. At the same time, Irfan was also given the Best Actor Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for the film Piku.

  • In the movie 'Hindi Medium', Irrfan played the role of a person named Raj and for this role, he has recently been given the title of Best Actor in Filmfare.

Irrfan Khan Family

In 1995 he got married to his fellow student Sutapa Sikdar. He has two sons. Babil and Ayan. His wife always says that while others would have fun Irfan Khan would be busy studying during NSD days. He does a lot of homework. He stays awake till 3 at night. So that he can give his best, whether it's film or TV. 

Once Irfan Khan took his wife to a Mumbai police station. To show her how the police department works. It happened when Irfan Khan was directing 'Banegi Apni Baat' serial.

Irfan Khan Death:

Bollywood actor Irfan Khan died on Wednesday 29 April 2020. He contacted a rare disease and it shook the film industry. He has also gone abroad for treatment of neuroendocrine cancer earlier. Truly, there has never been an actor like Irfan Khan. Nor will there ever be.
